MAMTech has participated in SEMSA-2009. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), with the financial assistance from the European Commission has organized a two day matchmaking event "South Europe Meets South Asia" (SEMSA) from February 27 to 28, 2009 at the "BMICH", Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The main objective of SEMSA was to promote technological and business collaborations between South Asian companies (from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal) and South European companies (from Spain, Italy, Greece and Slovenia) in the IT & IT enabled services and Processed food sectors. This was an ideal opportunity for South Asian Companies to establish trade and investment partnerships with aforementioned countries.
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce with the active support of its partners, i.e. Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dhaka in Bangladesh, (MCCID), Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI) in Nepal, ADEuropa Foundation (ADE) in Spain, Mondimpresa S. c. r. l. in Italy, Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Drama (CCID) in Greece and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (CCIS) in Slovenia has implemented the events.
Companies in the IT & IT enabled services and Processed food sectors have been participated in this unique matchmaking event. During the innegural Ceylon Chamber of Commerce’s Secretary General Prema Cooray said the direct investment to the South Asian region from European partners was very significant.The SEMSA program was aimed at helping the Small and Medium (SME) sectors in the South Asian region.
The event has attracted 120 Asian companies, including 60 from Sri Lanka, and 30 from Bangladesh and 30 from Nepal and another 60 South European companies with 15 each from Greece, Italy Spain and Slovenia.
Ceylon Chamber of Commerce’s Senior Assistant General Secretary Chandraratne Vithanage said this is a unique event Sri Lanka had not witnessed before and has provide an ideal platform for bilateral trade between these countries.
